Violent Encounter at Katy Checkpoint Ends in Prison Sentence
What began as a routine checkpoint inspection near Katy, Texas, quickly turned dangerous. Kevin Dominguez, 26, was stopped on U.S. Highway 57 when a trained Border Patrol canine detected something suspicious in his trunk. Agents discovered a hidden individual inside — but instead of cooperating, Dominguez slammed his car into a Border Patrol agent and fled, sparking a high-speed pursuit.
Aerial surveillance soon revealed two people fleeing into a nearby field, one identified as an undocumented immigrant from Honduras. Dominguez was arrested days later, pleaded guilty in January 2024, and was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison. His actions underline the risks faced daily by law enforcement and the swift justice delivered in response.
El Paso Smuggling Ring Busted in Coordinated Raid
In El Paso, federal agents took down a sophisticated smuggling network operating from local motels. Monitoring suspicious activity at a notorious motel, the Ysleta Border Patrol’s Disrupt Unit tracked vehicles with temporary plates shuttling people in and out.
After observing several individuals move between motels and vehicles, authorities arrested driver Yair Alejandro Aguilar-Flores, along with accomplices Angel Eduardo Carrillo-Carrillo and Jorge Alfredo Lopez-Acevedo. Further probes uncovered seven more undocumented migrants linked to the operation. Jesus David Reyes-Villagran, caught returning to claim a motel room used to hold migrants, admitted to moving five undocumented individuals to another location.
All face serious federal charges, with potential prison sentences of up to a decade pending trial.
Repeat Offender Nabbed for Illegal Re-Entry
Federal authorities continue cracking down on repeat offenders, recently apprehending Melvin Armando Funes, a Honduran national caught illegally re-entering the U.S. after deportation. His arrest highlights ongoing efforts to enforce immigration laws and keep the border secure.
