🔴 BREAKING: Devastating 7.7 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Myanmar–China Border
At 3:42 a.m. local time, a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck a remote mountainous region along the Myanmar–Yunnan Province (China) border, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The quake occurred at a shallow depth of approximately 10 kilometers, intensifying its destructive impact.
The tremors were strongly felt across northern Thailand, including the cities of Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai, where mass evacuations took place amid widespread panic.
Myanmar has so far borne the brunt of the disaster, declaring a state of emergency in several regions. Authorities have confirmed at least 48 fatalities and over 300 injuries, with dozens still missing. In the city of Lashio, entire buildings have collapsed, and rescue crews are racing against time to pull survivors from the debris.
“We heard a loud noise, and suddenly everything started shaking. The walls cracked, the ground moved like waves,”
said Myo Thant, a resident who narrowly escaped with his family before their home crumbled.
Emergency response teams are being deployed across the affected areas as aftershocks continue to rattle the region. More updates to follow as the situation develops.
