According to The New York Post, Austin’s tragic encounter unfolded during an altercation with another 17-year-old athlete, Karmelo Anthony, at the track and field event on April 2. The two had never met prior to that day. Reports suggest that Austin confronted Anthony, who was attending a different school, for sitting in Frisco Memorial High School’s tent in the stands, asking him to move. What began as a disagreement quickly escalated into the senseless violence that would claim Austin’s life.

Austin’s twin brother, Hunter, who was also there, told WFAA: “And my brother stepped in and said, ‘You need to move. And he’s like, ‘Make me move.’”
Anthony, it’s alleged, then grabbed up his backpack and pulled out a knife. He proceeded to stab Austin in the chest.
Hunter heartbreakingly revealed how he held his brother in his arms, attempting to stop the bleeding while waiting for first responders to arrive.
He then called the twins’ parents as Austin was placed on a gurney.
“Austin Metcalf’s Father Speaks Out Following Son’s Tragic Death”
In an emotional interview with NBC Dallas-Fort Worth, Jeff Metcalf, Austin and Hunter’s father, shared his anguish: “I could see all the blood, and I saw where the wound was, and I was very concerned, so I had to find his brother, and we rushed to the hospital. And we prayed, and it’s God’s plan, I don’t understand it, but they weren’t able to save him. This is murder.”
Remembering his son, Jeff described Austin as a “leader of men” whose radiant smile could light up any room. “His passion for football was unbelievable,” Jeff wrote on the GoFundMe page set up following the tragedy.
Karmelo Anthony, the suspect in the stabbing, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He is currently being held at Collin County Jail on a $1 million bond.
Meanwhile, Anthony’s father, Andrew, spoke out to The New York Post, defending his son. “Everyone has already made their assumptions about my son, but he’s not what they’re making him out to be,” Andrew said. “He was not the aggressor. He was not the one who started it.”
