The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed that Clint and Meghan McCaffety, the parents of the young athlete, tragically passed away in the collision. Their son, Connor McCaffety, a junior at Rogers Independent School District, also lost his life in the crash.

In a statement shared Tuesday morning, Rogers ISD Superintendent Duana Brashear expressed the deep sorrow felt by the entire community: “It is with overwhelming sadness that I share the tragic loss of Connor McCaffety. Our hearts go out to everyone who is grieving this loss. Our entire district, and the communities we serve, are impacted by this loss.”

The entire community is left in shock and mourning as they remember Connor and his parents.

Tragic Collision Claims Lives of Texas Family, Including High School Baseball Player

A devastating crash on Monday claimed the lives of Clint McCaffety, 43, his wife Meghan, 39, and their 16-year-old son Connor, a promising high school baseball player. The family was en route to Connor’s game when their car was struck by an 18-wheeler in a construction zone on Highway 36 near the Milam-Burleson County line.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Clint McCaffety was driving a Ford sedan and had stopped in the westbound lane due to the construction. A Kia SUV had stopped behind their vehicle, with the semitruck trailing behind. Tragically, the truck driver failed to stop in time and collided with both vehicles, resulting in the deaths of Clint, Meghan, and Connor, who were all pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash also caused the Kia to roll into a ditch. The driver of the Kia, a 45-year-old woman, was hospitalized, though her injuries are not yet known. The incident occurred around 4:40 p.m., and the highway was shut down for about seven hours as authorities investigated.

The McCaffetys had been leaving a high school golf tournament in Brenham and were on their way to Rogers High School for Connor’s home game. Rogers ISD Superintendent Duana Brashear described Connor as not only a standout athlete but also a top performer in the school’s agriculture program, stating that he was “pretty fantastic at everything.”

The family leaves behind a daughter, and counselors will be made available at the school for students and staff affected by the tragedy. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and it is currently unclear why the semitruck collided with the other two vehicles. The driver of the semitruck, a 26-year-old man, was not reported to have sustained any injuries.

This devastating loss has left the community in mourning, and the entire Rogers ISD is grieving the passing of the McCaffety family.
