“While I was simply waiting at the ATM, my son made two new best friends — and they just happened to be police officers!”

My Son Made Two New Best Friends at the Bank — and They Were Police Officers

We were only supposed to be at the bank for five minutes. Five.
I told my son to stay close while I used the ATM in the lobby. He was in one of his “curious explorer” moods—wiggling around, asking nonstop questions about everything from ceiling fans to how money “magically comes out of the wall.”

Next thing I know, I turn around and he’s deep in conversation with two California Highway Patrol officers stationed near the entrance—chatting like they were long-lost uncles.

My first instinct? Mild panic. I was ready to apologize for him bothering them, but before I could say a word, one of the officers knelt down, smiled, and handed him a shiny sticker badge.

And just like that—instant friendship.

My son stood a little taller, chest puffed out like he’d just been sworn in.
He fired off questions about their walkie-talkies, the buttons on their uniforms, and—my personal favorite—whether they “eat donuts or just save them for emergencies.”

Both officers? Grinning ear to ear.
