Tragedy Strikes Simi Valley: Handmade Kit Plane Crashes Into Homes, Claiming Three Lives
A devastating crash occurred on Saturday afternoon in Simi Valley, California, when a handmade kit plane crashed into two homes, killing the pilot, a passenger, and a dog. The incident took place around 2:00 pm on High Meadow Street, located approximately 50 miles northwest of Los Angeles. The plane, a single-engine Vans RV-10, was en route from William J. Fox Airfield to Camarillo Airport.
Witnesses reported seeing the plane struggling mid-air, wobbling and flying sideways before it collided with one home, sparking a fire. A nearby Ring camera captured the terrifying moment of flames and an explosion. Fortunately, the residents of both affected homes managed to evacuate safely. The Ventura County Fire Department confirmed that while the second home sustained less damage, the impact of the crash was still significant.

Authorities Launch Investigation Into Fatal Simi Valley Plane Crash
Federal and local authorities, including the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), are actively investigating the cause of the tragic plane crash in Simi Valley. They are reviewing weather conditions, flight records, and maintenance logs to piece together what led to the devastating incident. In the meantime, the Hovakemian family’s home remains off-limits as the investigation unfolds. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that the pilot was the sole occupant of the plane, and the NTSB is leading the inquiry.
This crash adds to a growing concern, following a similar tragedy earlier this year in Fullerton, where a Vans RV-10 aircraft crashed, killing a pilot and his daughter.
