A body language expert has broken down the deeper meaning behind Emmanuel Macron and Donald Trump’s striking handshake. Their analysis follows a wave of online reactions as netizens scrutinized the intense moment captured on video.
Body language expert Darren Stanton recently shared his insights with UNILAD regarding the highly scrutinized meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron. Stanton revealed the possible significance behind their much-discussed handshake, which has been labeled as “intense” by observers.

Stanton explained that when Trump shakes hands with politicians, he often exerts a crushing grip, using dominance and strength as key elements of his gesture. “As Trump shook Macron’s hand, we saw him pulling Macron towards him—and Macron pulled Trump towards him too,” he noted. This subtle tug-of-war, according to Stanton, symbolized both leaders’ determination to assert their strength and maintain an image of equality.

Stanton further interpreted the handshake as a strategic move by both Macron and Trump to “assert power over the other.” He also pointed out that despite their smiles for each other and the cameras, the expressions seemed exaggerated and lacked genuine warmth, suggesting an underlying battle for dominance rather than true camaraderie.
Stanton also noted subtle signs of “slight contempt” from Macron during the exchange. However, despite these underlying tensions, he observed that their interactions suggested a mutual respect as political leaders, acknowledging each other’s stature on the world stage.

While Stanton pointed out that Trump and Macron don’t share the closest bond, he acknowledged that they maintain a “reasonable working relationship.” He added, “I think Trump tolerates people, and Macron is one of them.” Stay tuned for more details on this intriguing analysis.
