The young girl, who accidentally fell into the Lerma River last Thursday, was found lifeless early Saturday morning—bringing unimaginable sorrow to the community of Salamanca.
In an official statement, the Salamanca Municipal Government confirmed the devastating discovery:
“The body of a 10-year-old girl who fell into the Lerma River in the community of Pitayo last Thursday was found this Saturday morning.”
With heavy hearts, local authorities expressed their deepest sympathies to Dulce’s family:
“With profound respect, the Municipal Government mourns this painful loss and extends its heartfelt support to the grieving family. We reaffirm our commitment to respond with compassion and responsibility to any situation that impacts our community.”
The tragic news has cast a shadow over Salamanca, a city now united in mourning. Special recognition has been given to Liborio Vázquez and the Salamanca Rescue Brigade, whose tireless dedication led to the recovery of Dulce’s body. Their efforts were joined by emergency teams from Irapuato, Pueblo Nuevo, and Huanímaro, along with diving specialists, the Salamanca Fire Department, the Red Cross, and Civil Protection units at both municipal and state levels.
The Day Everything Changed
On the afternoon of Thursday, June 12, emergency services were alerted to a distressing scene: a child clinging to a tree in the middle of the fast-moving Lerma River. That child, shaken but alive, recounted the terrifying moment he and Dulce were swept away while playing near the water. He managed to hold on—Dulce did not.
From that moment, a coordinated and determined search began. Crews combed the river day and night, holding onto a flicker of hope. But Saturday morning brought the news no one wanted to hear.
Dulce Victoria’s story has left an indelible mark on Salamanca. In her memory, the community grieves together—united in sorrow, and in love for a little girl gone too soon.
