Kathy Bates, nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series Drama for her role in Matlock, graced the 2025 Golden Globe Awards looking more radiant than ever. Her stunning 100-pound weight loss was impossible to miss, and she effortlessly showcased her timeless beauty.
At Sunday’s ceremony, the actress captivated everyone with her bold and fashion-forward red carpet ensemble, making a statement that was both unique and undeniably chic.
Kathy Bates dazzled on the red carpet at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards in a striking ensemble that perfectly blended elegance and modern flair. She paired a unique beaded dinner jacket with sleek black tuxedo pants, accessorizing with a sparkling evening bag. However, it was her unexpected footwear that truly stole the spotlight: a pair of Sneex, a sneaker-heel hybrid designed by Spanx founder Sara Blakely.
At the ceremony, Kathy not only wowed with her chic and trendy look but also captivated with her ageless beauty and flawless figure, leaving everyone in awe of her remarkable transformation.

In addition to her stunning outfit, Kathy Bates was nearly unrecognizable thanks to her incredibly slim figure.
Earlier this year, the Misery star candidly shared the details of her transformative weight-loss journey. The Oscar-winning actress has shed an impressive 100 pounds (about 45 kilograms), showcasing her dedication and hard work over the past few years.
Kathy Bates’ health journey took a significant turn in 2017 when she was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, prompting her to take her well-being more seriously.
“It runs in my family, and I’ve seen what my father went through—he had a leg amputation. One of my sisters is dealing with it very seriously. It terrified me, and it scared me straight. I thought, ‘I’ve got to do something,’” she revealed in a past interview.
While discussing her approach to the diagnosis, Kathy emphasized, “Getting diagnosed with diabetes doesn’t mean you have to give up your favorite foods, but it does help to be mindful of your overall eating habits.”
Kathy’s journey toward a healthier lifestyle began in 2017, following her diagnosis of type 2 diabetes.

Speaking about her health, Kathy revealed how crucial it was for her role as Madeline, or “Matty,” in the legal drama Matlock, as Matty is a notably active character.
“In the last couple of years, I’ve really focused on my health and gotten almost back to my college weight,” Kathy shared in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
She went on to explain, “The timing of me getting healthy and the show coming along was pure serendipity. I’m in great shape now. I can walk, I can breathe—whereas before, on other shows, I had to sit down every two to three minutes.”

Kathy also highlighted how Matlock, which delves into the theme of the ‘invisibility’ of women of a certain age, rescued her from the brink of semi-retirement.
“A woman my age would never have been offered a role like this. Never. The complexity of the character and the quality of the writing— I pinch myself every day,” Kathy admitted.
She went on to reflect, “I’ve always been focused on doing the best work I possibly can. And, as I said earlier, being able to bring all the different facets I’ve learned from various roles into this one, I’m so glad I stuck around for it.”
Although Kathy Bates didn’t take home an award at the 2025 Golden Globes, her graceful and poised reaction to her loss quickly caught the media’s attention.

As Shōgun‘s Anna Sawai made her way to the stage to accept her award, cameras caught Kathy Bates in a lighthearted moment—ripping up a piece of paper that appeared to contain her planned acceptance speech, should she have won.
The playful gesture quickly went viral, with fans and media alike finding the moment both hilarious and endearing.
