In an emotional statement shared by Brett and his wife Jessica, the couple revealed the heartbreaking loss of their 14-year-old son, Miller. The teenager tragically passed away after falling ill during a family vacation.
“With heavy hearts, we must announce the passing of our youngest son, Miller. At just 14 years old, he was taken from us far too soon after becoming sick along with several other family members while we were away,” the grieving parents wrote.
“We have so many questions and so few answers at this time, but we do know that he passed peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Friday, March 21st.”
The family chose not to disclose further details regarding the illness that took Miller’s life, asking for privacy as they navigate their sorrow and seek healing during this unimaginable time.
Brett and Jessica, who also share another son, Hunter Gardner, expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the support and encouragement they’ve received from friends and loved ones as they mourn their devastating loss.

In a deeply moving statement, the Gardners shared their belief that their faith, family, and friends would help them through this unimaginable loss. “Our prayers go out to Miller’s teammates and friends, as well as to all other families who have lost a child far too soon. We share in their grief,” they wrote. “We kindly ask for privacy as we mourn and seek healing during this difficult time.”
Brett Gardner, a respected outfielder, dedicated his entire 14-year Major League Baseball career to the New York Yankees. Now 41, Gardner retired in 2021 and had been focusing on spending more time with his family in South Carolina.
