Deadly Mid-Air Collision at Marana Regional Airport Claims Two Lives

Tragedy struck at Marana Regional Airport in Arizona around 8:30 a.m. when a mid-air collision occurred between a Cessna 172S and a Lancair 360 MK II. The crash resulted in one plane engulfed in flames near the runway, while the second aircraft made a safe emergency landing. Fortunately, the two individuals aboard the landed plane emerged unharmed.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has confirmed the two fatalities and launched an investigation into the cause of the crash. In the wake of the incident, Marana Regional Airport, which operates without an air traffic control tower, has temporarily shut down.

Officials expressed their condolences to the victims’ families and extended their gratitude to the first responders. As part of the FAA’s Air Traffic Control Tower Program, the airport could see future safety upgrades aimed at preventing such incidents.
