Four-Year-Old Left Unresponsive After Drinking Popular Slushy: A Mother’s Urgent Warning

A four-year-old girl from Lancashire, Marnie Moore, became unresponsive after consuming a popular slushy drink, leaving her mother, Kim Moore, horrified and urging other parents to take caution.

Marnie had been enjoying a children’s party where her mom bought her and her sister one-liter refillable cups filled with slushy drinks. The young girl was playing and sipping from the drink intermittently. But soon after, her behavior changed dramatically.

At first, Kim assumed Marnie was simply tired, as she began to show signs of sleepiness. However, things took a drastic turn.

Kim recalled, “It was only five minutes later when I tried to wake her up that I realised she wasn’t waking up and was actually unconscious. She’d gone really pale.”

Despite shaking her, there was no response. Marnie was floppy, completely unresponsive, and her mom immediately knew something was terribly wrong.

Rushed to the local hospital, Marnie remained unconscious for about 25 minutes. Doctors worked urgently to raise her blood sugar levels, but the terrifying incident left both her and her mother shaken.

Now, Kim is warning parents to be mindful of what their children consume, especially when it comes to seemingly harmless beverages.

Four-Year-Old Left Unconscious After Drinking Popular Slushy: A Warning to Parents

A shocking incident has left a four-year-old girl from Lancashire, Marnie Moore, fighting for her life after consuming a popular slushy drink. The frightening event has prompted her mother, Kim Moore, to speak out, urging other parents to be cautious when it comes to giving slushy drinks to young children.

Marnie was at a children’s party when Kim bought her and her sister one-liter refillable cups of slushies. At first, everything seemed fine as Marnie played and took occasional sips. However, after a short time, Marnie started showing concerning signs of fatigue, becoming increasingly sleepy. Kim initially thought her daughter was just tired, but soon it became clear that something more serious was happening.

Kim recalled, “It was only five minutes later when I tried to wake her up that I realized she wasn’t waking up and was actually unconscious. She’d gone really pale. She wasn’t rousing at all, and I think it was my instinct that told me something wasn’t right. She was floppy and completely unconscious.”

Desperate to help, Kim shook Marnie, but there was no response. Marnie was rushed to the hospital, where she remained unconscious for about 25 minutes as doctors worked to raise her dangerously low blood sugar levels. She was eventually discharged after three days in the hospital, but the traumatic experience left her mother deeply shaken.

Kim suspected the slushy drink was the cause of Marnie’s sudden collapse, as it was the only thing she had consumed that day that was out of the ordinary. The doctors later confirmed that Marnie had suffered from glycerol toxicity, a condition caused by the glycerol used in the slushies to maintain their frozen texture.

Kim explained, “In the hospital, she screamed out in agony, saying her head hurt and vomited everywhere. Looking back, she had every single symptom of glycerol toxicity.”

This isn’t the first case of a child suffering from glycerol toxicity due to slushy drinks. Experts have been warning about the risks for some time, advising against giving slushies to children under 8 years old. In fact, a similar incident occurred last year when 4-year-old Albie Green collapsed after drinking an iced slushy, coming dangerously close to death.

Kim, now deeply concerned, added, “I personally wouldn’t allow my child to drink one at all. It’s not a risk I’m willing to take. I don’t think they should be sold to kids 12 and under. I wouldn’t wish what we went through on my worst enemy. It was awful.”

Parents everywhere are being urged to share this vital warning, and to be cautious when allowing their children to consume such drinks.

Please share this story to help spread awareness and protect other children from a similar fate.
