Michelle Obama, 61, Exudes Timeless Elegance in a Chic Black Suit During Conversation with Tina Knowles

Fans couldn’t get enough of Tina Knowles’ stunning appearance at the event, marking the former First Lady’s first stop on her highly anticipated book tour at The Theater at MGM National Harbor.

In a recent Instagram post, Michelle Obama shared highlights from her inspiring conversation with Tina about her new memoir, Matriarch: A Memoir.

The Instagram post featured a thread of stunning pictures capturing the duo in their radiant outfits, exuding sophistication and grace. Tina Knowles stole the show in a breathtaking dress with sheer black sleeves, a sculpted black overlay that draped over a textured silver base, and a waist cinched to perfection.

Her auburn hair was styled down with a side part, complemented by elegant earrings and a sparkling diamond bracelet.

Michelle Obama looked effortlessly chic in a sleek black suit, featuring straight-leg pants and a double-breasted blazer. Her braids were styled in a high ponytail, and she accessorized with matching earrings and several silver rings. Fans couldn’t help but shower her with admiration, calling her look majestic.

In the comments, one fan wrote, “Michelle’s tall silhouette and that tailored suit is EVERYTHING!!!” Another added, “That suit on Michelle is perfectly tailored. She looks so good! ❤️🔥”

Others couldn’t stop praising her beauty: “WOW, Michelle is beautiful ❤️,” one fan gushed. Michelle’s ensemble wasn’t the only thing sparking conversation. “Michelle has lost weight, but she looks so good due to her height 😍,” observed one onlooker.

However, not all remarks were positive. One commenter expressed concern, saying, “Wondering if Mrs. Obama is okay. She’s losing so much weight (to me.).”

One commenter noted, “It took me a while to recognize it’s Michelle Obama with this weight loss,” while another wrote, “Mrs. Obama has lost a lot of weight [sic].”

Amid the comments, Michelle shared her excitement about the event, captioning a video of herself and Tina Knowles dancing to “Boots on the Ground” with, “It was such a joy speaking with @MsTinaKnowles at her first book tour stop for Matriarch!

She continued, “Tina, thank you for your honesty, your humor, and your heart. Matriarch is more than a memoir — it’s a love letter to Black women, to our stories, to our families, and to the unshakeable strength that holds us all together.”

Michelle also took the opportunity to thank singer-songwriter Ledisi for her appearance at the event. Additionally, she announced that her podcast, In My Opinion, co-hosted with her brother Craig Robinson, would soon feature her interview with Tina.

Tina shared her own reflections on the event, posting a heartfelt message about her time with the “forever First Lady.” “To be in conversation with her, in front of a room full of love, laughter, and powerful Black women? A dream,” she wrote.

A couple of hours later, Tina posted again, saying she was “still walking on cloud nine” after the unforgettable night. “We laughed, we got emotional, we joked, we danced (She taught me a little of the dance), but most of all, we were honest and straightforward,” she recalled.

Tina also announced that Keke Palmer would moderate her upcoming appearance at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles, with Jennifer Hudson performing — an event she promised would be incredible.

Her tour will continue to various locations, including New Orleans with Tamron Hall, Houston with Kelly Rowland, and Atlanta with Tyler Perry.

Tina’s memoir, Matriarch: A Memoir, was featured in Oprah’s Book Club last month and was published on April 22, 2025. It became a #1 New York Times bestseller upon release and currently sits at #9 in the top 10. Signed copies are available at major U.S. bookstores, including Barnes & Noble and Class Bookstore.

Michelle and Tina’s appearance comes after Michelle briefly addressed rumors surrounding her marriage to Barack Obama in a May 1 edition of Diary of a CEO. Host Steven Bartlett touched on the ongoing divorce speculation, to which Michelle responded, “What I will say is, you know me well enough now, Steven, that if I were having problems with my husband, everybody would know about it.”

Michelle further clarified that she’s “not a martyr” and would likely address any issues publicly if they arose. “Like, well let me tell you what he did,” she joked. Her brother, Craig Robinson, who was also present during the interview, lightened the mood by adding, “If they were having a problem, I’d be doing a podcast with him.”
