“Blackpink’s Lisa Faces Backlash Over Controversial Detail in Met Gala Outfit”

While the Met Gala is known for its eccentric fashion, Blackpink’s Lisa has sparked controversy with her recent outfit choice.

The K-pop sensation and White Lotus season three star made her much-anticipated Met Gala debut last night, sporting a striking Louis Vuitton ensemble.

Meanwhile, fellow Blackpink member Jennie also marked her first Met Gala appearance, turning heads in a chic Chanel creation.

Given this year’s theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, the event was brimming with bold fashion statements celebrating Black style and dandyism.

The 28-year-old White Lotus star stunned in a black lace fitted jacket, paired with a lace bodice, black court heels, Louis Vuitton tights, and a matching Louis Vuitton handbag. Her ensemble appeared to align with this year’s Met Gala theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.

However, it was the lace design on her outfit that truly caught attention. The intricate detailing, believed to represent the faces of iconic Black historical figures like Maya Angelou and Rosa Parks, became the focal point of controversy.

According to Louis Vuitton, the lace design was inspired by American artist Henry Taylor’s work, which portrays portraits of figures who have influenced his life. The lace design, however, extended down to the knickers portion of Lisa’s look, a detail that has sparked backlash.

Critics quickly voiced their disapproval, with many deeming the placement of such powerful portraits on her underwear as disrespectful. One Twitter user wrote, “I’m sorry but isn’t having Rosa Parks, a huge historical figure, on your panties… like, you know, disrespectful? It’s also weird.”

Another user asked, “Who the hell decided it was a good idea to put the faces of influential Black women on a pair of PANTIES?”

One more echoed the sentiment: “Rosa Parks on her underwear. This is so disrespectful, what was she thinking?”

However, not everyone criticized Lisa’s custom-made outfit. Some praised the creative design, with one person commenting, “The faces on the outfits kinda scream how the detailing is soooooo on top of its games! Super cool @LouisVuitton.”

A second commenter took a more positive approach, highlighting the significance of Maya Angelou’s portrait, writing, “Maya Angelou was an American poet, writer, and civil rights activist, best known for her memoir I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. A powerful voice for Black identity, women’s rights, and equality — her portrait is beautifully embroidered on Lisa’s Met Gala outfit.”

Another praised the ensemble’s tribute to Black icons, saying, “Lisa’s Met Gala outfit features the silhouettes of many Black icons! Her team did an amazing job.”

Yet another fan declared, “This look is EVERYTHING,” clearly impressed by the bold fashion statement.
