Tragedy Strikes in Simi Valley: Small Plane Crash Claims 2 Lives and a Dog

On May 3, 2025, a small plane crashed in the Wood Ranch neighborhood of Simi Valley, California, leaving the pilot, a passenger, and a dog dead. The aircraft, a Vans RV-10, had taken off from Lancaster and was headed to Camarillo when it went down in a residential area.

The plane crashed into the backyard and dining room of the home belonging to Arman and Armineh Hovakemian, just moments after Arman had rushed inside with their dog. Miraculously, the couple was unharmed, though their home sustained significant damage. Another nearby house was also affected, and two dogs remain missing after escaping in the chaos.

Witnesses reported seeing the plane flying low before the crash, with security footage showing the aircraft swerving erratically before it plunged to the ground. First responders quickly controlled the ensuing fire, and fortunately, no residents or firefighters were injured.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the crash, though conclusions may take over a year to reach. This tragic incident follows another recent fatal small-plane crash in Minnesota, raising concerns about aviation safety and prompting further scrutiny of air travel regulations.
