Canadian Premier says he will shut off power to 1,500,000 customers in America after Trump announced new tariffs
In light of the increased tariffs imposed by Trump, Doug Ford has threatened to turn off the power to 1.5 million customers in the United States.
Immediately following the announcement of contentious new tariffs by Donald Trump, a Premier of Canada has stated that he will cut off power to 1.5 million people in the United States.

Shortly after returning to the White House in January, President Trump greenlighted an order imposing “catastrophic” tariffs aimed at holding China, Mexico, and Canada accountable for failing to stop the influx of harmful drugs into the United States. The move reflects the administration’s aggressive stance on border security and international drug control.
The tariffs were implemented with a 25 percent levy on goods imported from Canada and Mexico, and a 10 percent tariff on China. President Trump has suggested that the only way Canada could avoid these tariffs would be by becoming the “cherished 51st State” of the United States.
In response, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau issued a statement on Monday, March 3, stating: “Today, after a 30-day pause, the U.S. administration has chosen to proceed with imposing 25 percent tariffs on Canadian exports and a 10 percent tariff on Canadian energy.”
“Let me be clear—there is no justification for these actions.”
In a public announcement, the White House explained that the tariffs were part of President Trump’s “bold action” to hold Mexico, Canada, and China accountable for their promises to curb illegal immigration and stop the flow of dangerous drugs, including fentanyl, into the United States.
The directive further noted, “Fentanyl production in Canada is on the rise, and enough fentanyl was seized at the northern border last year to kill 9.8 million Americans.”
“Furthermore, illegal border crossings from Canada have reached historic highs every year for the past four fiscal years.”

Doug Ford, the Premier of Ontario, who secured a third majority last week, made a bold statement during a news conference: “If they want to try to annihilate Ontario, I will do anything, including cutting off their energy — with a smile on my face.”
“The anguish must be felt by them. Are they planning to attack us with force? We must respond with double the effort,” Doug Ford declared.
In an interview with NBC, Ford emphasized, “We [Ontario] keep the lights on for 1.5 million homes and support manufacturing in New York, Michigan, and Minnesota.”
“If he wants to destroy our economy and our families, I will shut down the electricity flowing into the U.S.,” Ford warned.
Additionally, Ford reiterated his earlier statements during a speech at a mining convention in downtown Toronto on Monday.
He was quoted by the Toronto Sun saying, “If they want to try to annihilate Ontario, I will do everything for them, including cutting off their energy — with a smile on my face.”

“They are dependent on our energy, and they rely on it. They want to attack us with great force, but we are going to respond with twice the amount of force,” Ford declared.
He went on to say, “That is exactly what we are going to do.”
“The provinces have a significant role, but it’s the federal government that’s leading the charge, and we’re going to stand shoulder-to-shoulder, no matter who’s in power at the federal level.”
Is this really true?
