Dozens Injured After School Bus Overturns on Return from Field Trip

A routine school outing turned into a nightmare Thursday afternoon when a school bus carrying 35 students and two adults from Pine Ridge Middle School in South Carolina overturned on I-77. The bus was returning from a field trip when a tire suddenly blew out, causing it to flip over and land on its side in the middle of busy traffic.

The crash triggered a massive emergency response. Five medical helicopters were dispatched to the scene as first responders raced against time to rescue those trapped in the wreckage. Several children were rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent medical treatment.

Shocking aerial images showed the bus lying on its side, surrounded by emergency vehicles, with debris scattered across the highway. Witnesses described scenes of panic and confusion as responders worked tirelessly to free the injured.

“The scene was chaotic—like something out of a nightmare,” one witness said. “You could hear the screams, and people were running to help.”

Authorities are now investigating what led to the tire blowout and whether it could have been prevented. Meanwhile, the community remains in shock as families await updates on the conditions of the injured children.
